I was honored to be asked to be on Joan's show on 08/20/08 with B3 legend Trudy Pitts. It was fun to interact and have a nice conversation and also listen to compositions by both Trudy and Joan.
Five of my compositions were played, two from my latest national CD release, "For Hep Cats" on Chicken Coup Records, a tune with my QED jazz piano trio, a work for hire for a local high school play, and then a selection from my CD, "Amethyst Dreams", which is a collaborative effort with lyricist/librettist Timothy Conway.
On my first two Hammond B3 releases on Chicken Coup Records, "Blue Bop" (2006) and "For Hep Cats" (2008), I have either picked covers or written music to give a nod to B3 artists who have been influential in my development.
They are available at various places on the internet.
and at my personal website:

The "Blue Bop" release included three cover selections that were in tribute to my late teacher, B3 artist Hank Marr.
Two were Hank's compositions ("Sliver Spoon, "Bridge to Shangri-la") and the other was the first piece he taught me when I started taking lessons with him. ("Tenderly")
On the second release, "For Hep Cats", my producer Tony Monaco and I discussed having a blues theme that is prevalent throughout the entire CD. On this CD, I wrote and recorded two original compositions in a blues style to keep in with the theme of the project.
1) "Tone Wheel Grease" was written after I had studied Jack McDuff's style for a period of time and was the inspiration for the tune.
I decided to use the key Db, as many of Brother Jack's compositions I was familiar with at the time were in this key. ("Rock Candy", "Captain Jack"). I also am hoping the tune will be associated with me as my personal theme song. I had noted over the years that certain tunes are always associated with B3 players as their theme songs. ("Back at the Chicken Shack"-Jimmy Smith, "All About My Girl"-Jimmy McGriff, "More Today than Yesterday"-Charles Earland, etc..) and thought I should create one for myself.
The tune is AABA form with the A sections being in 12 bar blues form and the bridge giving a nod to "rhythm changes".
2) "Les Chat Bleus" is a Latin blues in D minor with a bridge section. It is also in AABA form.
I found Charles Earland's playing to be inspirational to me for this tune. My late composition teacher, Dave Wheeler suggested I add a bridge to the tune after hearing the basic 12 bar minor blues draft. Dave gave me some very basic things to think about concerning the bridge and I went home and applied these things to the tune.
The title is for my two Russian Blue mix cats, Max and Misha.
Easier to spell in French than in Russian. :-)
3) "Lili" was written as a tribute tune to my grandmother Lili Dauwalder (1901-1996).
My grandmother was a native of the Canton Speiz in Switzerland, loved music of all kinds, especially classical music, Swiss music, and polkas. She played piano, also.
4) "You Spotted Snakes" was written for a production at Bishop Hartley High School of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in the 1990's when I was on staff there. The music I wrote at that time was used in a recent production of the play again at Bishop Hartley.
5) "Winds of Change" is the opening track of my new age CD, "Amethyst Dreams". It was written in collaboration with Timothy Conway and is the opening song in his Celtic musical, "Widdershins" which is an original story about the life of Merlin the Musician.
The pieces "Lili", "You Spotted Snakes" and "Winds of Change" were recorded at our home studio.
My husband, Cary Dachtyl recorded and engineered both pieces and played live percussion overdubs on the "Winds of Change".
"Lili" is the traditional jazz piano trio. Tisha Simeral is on the bass and Cary Dachtyl on drums.
The Shakespeare piece and the "Amethyst Dream" selection "Winds of Change" were written using the Ensoniq T-12 synthesizer and ASR-10 sampling units as the basis for the tracks.
Other keyboards used throughout "Amethyst Dreams" included the Kawai K-4, Kawai K-3, EMU Vintage Keys Plus and the Yamaha AN1X synthesizers.

There are a number of links on that page from various websites.
Brian was a prolific musical genius whose music knew no genre. I was most familiar with the music we played in Honk, Wail, and Moan that was influenced heavily by Sun Ra and Charles Mingus, but Brian had his hands in genres as diverse as punk rock and country western music, also.
